KRF Kids at the Auto Club Speedway!

Did you see our kids at the Speedway this weekend? They were amazing. We couldn’t have asked for a better performance. People watched, walked by singing along, or stood to listen for a while. The Fender® Benders always had a crowd. DJ Uncle Joe Benson, from 100.3 The Sound, a long-time KRF supporter, gave them a wonderful announcement before they played, which was very exciting. The Fender Benders from Kids Rock Free® played great Elias Mc Seveney – Guitar, Matt Rubic – Guitar, and Jonny Mayhew –Drums. Braeden McCann, Bass, & Kassandra Castaneda, vocals, were unable to attend. But Austin Rubic and Sadie Martinez filled in for them splendidly. Austin knew all the notes, and Sadie learned ten new (to her) songs within a month and she belted them out with confidence as though she’d performed them countless times. Everyone is very proud of the both of them.

Thanks to the Speedway for donating some of the proceeds from ticket sales for March 18 & 19 for the race and all the Billy Ray Cyrus-signed guitar raffle ticket buyers. All funds raised benefit the music education program at Kids Rock Free.

Close the Box with Nature by Numbers

Close the Box is going to be doing a show at the Fender Center’s Rhythm Lounge Saturday, April 5, at 8:00 p.m. Doors open at 7:30. Our program consists of music that pays homage to progressive rock bands spanning four decades.  Yes, Gentle Giant, Genesis, Toy Matinee, Happy the Man, and many others are what you will hear on the show.

The musicians in Close the Box are made of dedicated musicians that are playing in the band for the sheer joy and respect of the bands that they are covering. The band is: Bill Giles (bass), Scott Grant (keys), Casey Jones (vocals), Alex Zimmer (guitar), Paul Zimmer (drums), and Lee Zimmer (guitar).

Also sharing the program will be the LA based group, Nature By Numbers. They are by far one of the best progressive rock bands to come along. Calling what they do “experimental rock”, it is performed with the precision, tightness, groove, and tones that you would expect to see on a major touring band.  Their music has some of the most involved tonal and rhythmic structures, and yet has sense and depth that can appeal to all listeners. Nature by Numbers consists of Thomas Golden (vocals), Garret Bever (guitar), Chris Golen (bass),  Joel Martinez (guitar), and  John Hoik (drums).

Kids Rock Free student tickets are only $5 and all other tickets are only $10. The show is a benefit for the Kids Rock Free music program. All the proceeds from this event will be going directly to much needed equipment for the recording studio at the center.  The studio will be used for recording the students and for the students to learn themselves how to record sessions. This will tie in with plans for song writing classes at the school where kids will learn to write songs, rehearse with other students, and record their project in a professional digital recording studio. So please make a point to help raise funds for this while enjoying some amazing music doing so.

Raffle tickets will be available for sale to win unique music memorabilia items (you do not need to be there to win) and there will be beer, wine, soda and refreshments for sale. For tickets call the KRF office at 951.735.2440
